St Margaret’s & The Queensland Children’s Hospital: World Music Therapy Week

World Music Therapy Week falls every April, and is an annual celebration of the powerful role music can play in rehabilitation and recovery.

As part of World Music Therapy Week in April, St Margaret’s primary musicians in Chorale and the Beathe String Quartet, alongside some soloists, shared the gift of music at the Queensland Children’s Hospital (QCH).

They performed a beautiful program which was streamed to patients in the children’s ward.

This special opportunity was made possible by Old Girl and Spirit of Service Awardee, Maggie James (’97, nee Leung), whose work as Clinical Lead of the Music Therapy Department at QCH continues to highlight the powerful role music plays in healing and wellbeing.

It was also lovely to have School Co-captain Polly’s Mum, Anna Young (’93) in attendance, who is the Director of Occupational Therapy and Music Therapy at QCH, making the occasion even more meaningful and strengthening the connection between St Margaret’s and the hospital community.

The school is very proud of the students for performing with such empathy and heart, and for using their music to make a difference.
