Mystery Corner
Thank you to all those old girls who respond about queries that appear in our Mystery Corner. We are slowly working out answers for some of them. Here are two more that we require help with.
Do you recognise this?
It was saved from certain destruction. It was on a pile of rubbish destined for the dump; however, we are not too sure what it was used for. Any ideas?
The second mystery concerns this page of parchment that was hanging in the Toorak library from the early 1970s. It is from a breviary from 1420-1460 so it is very special. It will be sent to a conservator shortly for restoration. But where did it come from?
On the back, there is a small sticker detailing a fine arts gallery in London. When I googled the address, it is now the Botswana Consulate!
Could it have been bought by Sisters Joan and Jean-Marie when they took the first school tour to Europe in 1970? Did a parent purchase it and gift it to the school?
